Harp Of Fuchsia Kalmia : Burning with your old joy in the terminal sun (I,rec.2006-2007)*°' Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/free.html#anchor_500 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Room40 Tenniscoats : Temporacha (JAP,2009)***°° Tr.5, “Do” 2 min Tr.7, “Dream is refreshing” 4 min 6 -9 Brilliant compilation of sound meditation aware improvisation in outdoor spaces. Best to listen very attentively, from start to finish. A favourite moment. The last track takes over the meditation with more playing, then stops. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview29.html#anchor_1156 * Morc The Puddle Parade : Origami (D/NL,2009)**° Tr.3, “White Cloud” 3 min Tr.6, “charcoal and ice” 4 min 7- Minimal whispery folktronic songs. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/ThePuddleParade.html#anchor_289 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SINGER-SONGWRITER * Guerssen Dave Bixby : Ode To Quetzalcoatl (US,1969,re.2009)**°’’ Tr.7, “Lonely Faces” 4 min Tr.12, “Peace” 4 min 8 -15 Interesting open hearted, vulnerable life experience with its open growth process conceptualised behind these two records. Best to listen from start to finish. While the concept is worth near 5 stars, many individual, rather loner songs taken out of the context become less outstanding than remaining within it. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/DaveBixby-Harbinger.html#anchor_289 * Guerssen Harbinger : Second Coming (US,re.2009)***° Tr.9, “Open Doors” 4 min -19 Beautiful intro and song with psychedelic folk flavour. After a period of drug abuse David looked back for and found an experience of a deeper connection within himself, but while looking for a description and context he came into contact with Christian communities and people who turned into personal gurus, experiences which were dangers too loose his own integrity, but which despite some associations with the naming of this album, he did not. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/DaveBixby-Harbinger.html#anchor_295 * Autumn Ferment "Seasonal Sevens : Summer" -single-: Emily Scott : "Pond Dipping"/Helene Renaut : "Bumblebee" (UK,2009)***°° Tr.2, Helene Renaut : "Bumblebee" 3 min -22 Very beautiful summer-friendly song. (I have airplayed it from a compilation before but it’s too good to miss now when it founds a new release/occasion) Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/SeasonalSeven.html#anchor_289 * neednowater Soy Un Caballo / This Is The Kit : Birchwood Beaker -single- (B/F,2009)****° Tr.2, This Is The Kit : “Bitchwood Beaker” 4 min -26 I chose the original track to play. Both tracks are good. (I have airplayed it from her album before, but it’s too good to miss now when it founds a new release/occasion) Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/SoyUnCaballo.html#anchor_276 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ACID FOLK / PSYCH FOLK * Subliminal Sounds Lisa O Piu (S,2009)****° Tr.1, “Cinnamon Sea” 5 min -31 After a CDR, a single and a cooperation with the singer from Comus this is finally the singer and band’s first full release. With leader of Dungen as a producer. Review : Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/swedenreview.html#anchor_81 * Wildfire Mill Lesli : Sleepwalkers Lament (S,2008)***°’ Tr.1, “The Big Sleep” 3 min -34 Beautiful instrumental intro for this album. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/Lesli.html#anchor_289 * private Joonathan Elokuu : Mushroom Heart (FIN,2009)***°’ Tr.3, “Purjehduslaulu” 4 min Tr.9, “As fair as Gilead/Ameli” 12 min 16 -50 Outstanding track, a very beautiful minstrel song, in Finnish. Although the last, also great track is long I also wanted to include it. The first part of it is a cover from C.O.B.’s “Solomon’s Song”. (This last track was faded out before the end only because I was short in broadcast time) Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/finland2.html#anchor_193 * Private Kosmos : Vieraan Taivaan Alla (FIN,2009)**°° Tr.6, “Tuulisina Pävinä” 9 min 59 Rather “progressive” elements in this psych-folk/folkrock-psych track. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/finland2.html#anchor_169 * Guerssen The Tree People : Human Voices (US,1984,re.2009)****° Tr.1, “Human Voices” 3 min Tr.5, “Thomas” 5 min Tr.7, “Dance” 3 min 11 -70 Briljant casette album, finally on CD. Highly recommended! Difficult to pick out highlights. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/TreePeople.html#anchor_332 * Angels Egg Wig Smith : A Means Of Escape through a Hedge (UK,2009)****° Tr.1, “Frost” 6 min -76 Kora player (amongst other instruments) and singer. Plays also in The Hand. A highlighting song on a very good album. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview28.html#anchor_1120 * Angels Egg The Hand : Berries from The Rubble (F/UK,2009)****° Tr.1, “And Fold” 4 min Tr.2, “Maroosia” 5 min 9 -85 Beautiful cooperation, sound and album. Highly recommended. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview28.html#anchor_1113 * Borne! V.A. : Leaves Of Life (US/..,2009)**** Tr.8, Larkin Grimm : “The Butcher” 5 min 96 Tr.11, Starless and Bible Black : “All the finest beams” 5 min Tr.19, Ora Cogan w Anna Rossi : “My Belle” 4 min 14 -99 New label and immediately some great releases. Very good and perfect to listen to compilation (organised by Arborea) with only acid folk related artists. Here are some of the highlighting take-outs. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview29.html#anchor_1154 * Drag City Helena Espvall & Masaki Batoh : Overload Ark (S/JAP,2009)**** Tr.6, “Tourdion” 3 min -102 Second time of a cooperation, which was even more fruitful as before. A rich world of acoustic expressions with medieval and world song acoustic music inspirations. Track 3 was a nice improvisation, but I was limited in airplay time. So I took this medieval French song in an original interpretation. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview24.html#anchor_912 * Borne! Arborea : House Of Sticks (UK,2009)****? Tr.2, “Beirut” 3 min -105 Great song. Could become a classic song in future. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview29.html#anchor_1137 (very soon) * Borne! Mi and L'Au : Good Morning Jokers (FI/F,2009)***°? Tr.7, “Dancing and Smiling” 7 min -112 A well arranged highlighting track from this new album. Tr.1, “Actaeon’s fall (against the hounds)” 5 min Well arranged song-melodic instrumental. Review soon ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Outro (if enough time) FOLKROCK * private Mary Jane : -DVDr+CDr (UK,2009)***° Tr.3, “Let The Fire Begin” 5 min Mary Jane has a distinctive folk-rock sound. This is a small reminder.
