This is another cooperation between two groups. In this track this gives a perfect balanced sound, a creative surreal theatrical world. I really like this kind of vocal/sound and melodic arrangements from Cerberous Shoal. It's a close to David Thomas (Pere Ubu) world, but more musically descriptive, arranged and improvised. Very consistent in building up a variety of similarly fitting ideas. Often with a brooding tension, rhythmical and balancing as a melodic tension. With more often use of cello. This must work a bit as a resume. Mostly it evolves very slowly, soundscape like. This really very good first track is a combination of "Krautrock", psychedelica with some experimental touch. Second chosen track is a good combination of an experimental ritual harmonium trance effect making with odd sounds of background handpercussion sounds and wrongly tuned guitar. Here the ideas of the group are still a bit too much to the basic, sometimes dark, soundscape like. With some raga guitar, soundscape effects. I preferred no to include any track. Electroscope : Journey to the centre of (US,1999)*** Tr.7, "Violet Shades" 2 min Tr.9, "Smile" 1 min Tr.10, "Will morning never come" 2 min Tr.12, "Chalumeau" 2 min 7 An underground psych group that has attention to acoustic sounds, and flows in between them, evolving within them like with an electroscopic vision, slightly fragmenting the elements, but with the full picture underneath, and with inspired song moments, sometimes closer to the psych folk field. Often very pale dreamy. * Secret Eye Phosphene : Phosphene (US,rec.2003)*** Tr.1, "The third bell" 2 min Tr.4, "Tirana calls" 3 min (fragment) Tr.6, "Souterrain" 5 min (fragment) Tr.7, "Turbillion" 2 min Tr.9, "And the ship of sunrise burning" 6 min 18 73 The evolution of the group into a stronger sound/mix, with a few neo 60's and neo-psych touches, and much more somewhat experimental spacey soundscape references. Track 9 is very much like early Klaus Schulze. The first is the most powerful experimental moment, the second is the most acid folk like track, a song (cello, guitar, voice). Gothic like. This track has the gothic melancholy and that desire.
