Radioshow “PVHF” on radio Centraal, Antwerp : 2008-03-15 : 800-1000 PM Splendid tracks only from : new Czech releases from Indies Records part 6 & chamber-folk-jazz-rock releases ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- intro 2 min - new Czech contemp.folk/chamber-folk releases from Indies Records part 6 : Indies records released many pearls of Czech contemporary folk, chamber-folk and folkrock during the 90s mostly. In this show I will let you hear 45 minutes of the best moments of mostly new releases. * Indies Jana Vébrová : Kykyrý (CZ,2008)*°° Tr.4, “Neucukni” 2 min A more quite track of this singer/accordeonist. Other tracks are more vibrant.. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/CZECH6.html#anchor_195 * Indies Raduza : V Salonu Baroknich Dam (CZ,2008)*°° Tr.2, “V Salonu Baroknich Dam” 3 min Tr.6, “Nezne a Mistrne” 4 min 11 On this second album on the label Raduza also took some classical inspirations, which I find extremely interesting to hear. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/CZECH6.html#anchor_221 * Indies Jirí Pavlica and Hradistan and Filharmonie Brno : Chvení (CZ,2008)****?? Tr.1, “Aeolian Prelude” 6 min Tr.6, “Altai,Altai” 7 min 13 -24 A huge project and eclectic album with orchestra, Tuvan guest singers and so ethnic inspirations, songs and instrumentals. This ambitious project is prepared for an international market. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/CZECH6.html#anchor_197 * Indies Hukl : Reynkarnace (CZ,2007)***° Tr.2, “Dusi Hosti Listopad” 3 min Tr.7, “Mzeni v Prosinci…” 2 min 5 -29 Poetry from Bohuslav Reynek put into music, with chamberfolk-rock like arrangements of song contexts. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/CZECH6.html#anchor_210 * Indies Kona Boj : Ja Sa Kona Bojim (CZ,2004)**°° Tr.3, “Ti Uhersti-Brodsti Pani” 3 min -32 Folk-rock, folklore-rock and rock-folk based upon traditional regional songs. First album of this band. This is for me the most beautiful song, with an ethno- flavoured singing and vocal harmony range that reminds me slightly of the Slovenian Sedmina (just this track). Also electric guitar arrangements can be heard to this folk-rock sound. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/CZECH6.html#anchor_217 * Indies Prosti Dumi : Ajde Na Balkana (CZ,2008)**?? Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/CZECH6.html#anchor_196 * Indies V.A.: Happy Trails & MG (CZ,2007)*°°’ Tr.10, Gothart : “Bezequesh Goca” 5 min -37 Another very good example of ethnofolkrock. From a compilation album. * Indies V.A.: Havet Vselijaka 2 (CZ,2007)**°° Tr.10, Jiri Voskovec & Jan Werich : “V Dome Strasi Duch” 4 min Tr.13, Jiri Dedecek : "U Zatce" 2 min Tr.18, J.Koubková : “Koktová Kráva” 2 min 8 -45 A children play with contribution of songs by 27 musicians and groups. First track is in the humoristic old time 30s Berlin style (perhaps Prague knew this scene and style too ?). Very enjoyable fun for kids release. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/CZECH6.html#anchor_211 * Indies Kvety : Strela zastavená v jantaru (CZ,2008)*°?? * Indies Kvety : Kocourek a horecka (CZ,2006)*?? The new releases sound more song oriented so perhaps a bit more esoteric to foreign ears. I will check them more thoroughly later. I like their debut best. Reviews on http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/CZECH6.html#anchor_186 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - more chamber-related releases : * Tzadik Dan Kaufman : Force Of Light (US,2007)****' Tr.1, “Shibboleth” 3 min Tr.5, “Count the almonds” 7 min 10 -55 Some of the arrangements like track 1 are comparable to some Czech releases so this fits pretty well. This is a musical concept based upon poetry from Paul Celan. This is a side-project from Barbez under lead of Dan Kaufman. The concept surely was successful in its execution. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog11.html#anchor_187 * Erdenklang Roland Kroell : Parzival (D,1996)***°?? Tr.1, “Gahmuret” 9 min -64 I found this very original contemporary chamber-troubadour music album second hand on a fair. It is the story of Parzival by Wolfram von Eschenbach put into music. Only one small instrumental track is a traditional, but the style is pretty much inspired by old music. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/oldmusic.html#anchor_101 * Alba Ensemble Tre Fontane : Musiques ŕ la cour d'Aliénor d'Aquitaine (F,2007)***°?? Tr.2, Richard Lionheart : “Ja Nuls” 5 min -71 On this favourite track the voice and interpretation of Romie Estčves sounds close to Esther Lamandier, -one of my favourite interpreters of old music-. Review : http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/oldmusic.html#anchor_98 * Home Mr.Diagonal & The Black Light Orchestra (B/UK,2008)***°’ Tr.2, “Midnight Milkman” 5 min Tr.3, “On the station” 5 min 10 -81 Musically often splendid and well arranged/performed/produced, sometimes a bit absurd in content, surreal Broadway theatre music project. These are my favourite tracks, which are surely brilliant. The whole concept for me still is a love/hate project, but gives also more fundament to its appreciation with each listen. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog11.html#anchor_183 * Home Olla Vogola : Marcel (B,2008)***°’ Tr.1, “Les Nains (ouverture #6)” 2 min Tr.2, “Al De Woorden Heb Ik Gestolen” 5 min Tr.6, “De Liefde” 6 min 13 -94 Wouter Vandenabeele’s Olla Vogola evolved to more chamber-rock music with jazz and classical flavours, performed with much emotional strength. Soetkin’s voice sounds slightly operatic, and elsewhere (not in the airplayed tracks, fado- like). These chosen tracks are splendid and a highly recommended listen. Rexiew : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog18.html#anchor_257 * Contraphonic Never Enough Hope : The Gift Economy (US,2008)***°’ Tr.1, “The Banner” 15 min -110 Big chamber group led by one composer, but with organic individual contributions, that mostly holds the middle between jazz, rock and classical music. This masterly performed and composed first piece might be the weirdest and most ambitious (5 star) track. Other tracks are more organic and improvised. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog18.html#anchor_246 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- outro : - new Turkish rock: * Voltay V.A.: Türkiye'den Alternatif Rock (TÜ,2007)**° Alternative rock sampler of new Turkish groups. Review : http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/TURKCOMPI.html#anchor_53 * Voltay Ayyuka (Tü,2007)**°’??? Tr.6, “Aglama” 5 min 115 Alternative rock band with psychedelic touches just for being Turkish. A teaser for more Turkish music in my Radioshow soon. Review : http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/Turkprogreview.html#anchor_133 * Doublemoon Replikas : Avaz (Tü,2005)**°’ The least from all three Replikas releases, still good, a bit more alternative rock, and a bit less psychedelic as before. I hope to write a better review soon. Review : http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/Turkprogreview2.html#anchor_120 * Finders Keepers Ersen (TÜ,1973-1977comp.2008)****°?? Just released compilation of this great anadolu pop/rock/arabesque pop singer. Will be airplayed soon, but not yet today. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/turkey.html#anchor_118 Also on the same label : * B-Music V.A.: Dulcimer presents B-music is the Food of Love (var,60s)? Tr.11, “Love” (Italy) 4 min 119 If time left : Tr.13, “Coming and going” (US) 3 min Tr.14, “Pop or Not” (France) 2 min … Sexual seduction or a bit more or better later on, with a groovy band on the background, I think is a nice way to close the show. Music to sexy-groove and to make love. Sexadelica. Review of this one will be made on my site soon. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Homepage radioshow : http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/ Previous playlists : http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/2008.html Newsletter with new reviews and playlists with some audio links : http://groups.yahoo.com/group/psychevanhetfolk/ Subscribe: psychevanhetfolk-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
